The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating a report of a home being shot into on Ritchie Street and an auto burglary in downtown Clarksdale.
In an effort to make Clarksdale safer, police need your help in making your community safe and are asking for anonymous information on either of these cases in an effort to stamp out crime in Clarksdale.
Anyone with information about these incidents to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911. All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving a crime.
Home shot
Clarksdale Police were called to Willow Park Apartments in the 600 block of Ritchie Street Monday morning after an occupant discovered her home had been shot into.
Mariah Wilson told officers she heard several shots being fired during the night and in the morning discovered where a bullet had come through a wall.
No one was injured in the incident and it was turned over to Investigator G. Johnson.
The public is reminded that firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
Auto Burglary
The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating the burglary of an auto in downtown Clarksdale Monday night.
Police were called to the corner of Third Street and Sunflower Avenue and spoke with Liberty Lee who said she came out to get in her vehicle at 11:14 p.m. and found someone had gone through her car.
A wallet, credit cards and prescription medication were reported taken in the crime.
As crime continues to swirl in many neighborhoods, the downtown area has been spared from this kind of incident in an effort to keep it tourist-friendly and to promote evening dining and nightlife.
The case was assigned to Investigator G. Johnson.
Curfew being enforced
Residents are also reminded that while Clarksdale no longer has a blanket curfew, juveniles are not to be out from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and parents or guardians or adults with them can be fined for curfew violation of youth in their care or in their car.
