Four fatalities occurred in a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Highways 161 and 61 at around 6 p.m. Friday, according to a Clarksdale Police Department press release.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a Delta Bus Lines bus and a Pontiac Grand Am were involved in the crash. The driver of the Pontiac and all three passengers were killed. They have been identified as Thamatha Lester, 52, Trayveon Jamison, 34, Vantheiso Williams, 30, Dietiurs Burns, 28.
No one in the Pontiac was taken to the hospital.
The passengers on the bus were Fed Ex workers, several complained of minor injuries and the driver of the bus reported he sustained minor injuries.
“It is still under investigation,” said Clarksdale police chief Sandra Williams. “It’s an extensive report and it’s going to have to be reviewed over and checked over and over.
“It was just tragic to lose four people from Jonestown and Lyon. It’s just tragic to lose these many people for this accident to have occurred. We’re keeping the families in our prayers and we’re just praying that make it through this difficult time.”
The Coahoma County Sheriff's Department, Clarksdale Fire Department, Coahoma County Fire and Rescue, Pafford Ambulance Services and the Mississippi Highway Patrol all assisted the Clarksdale Police Department.
