The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has been called in to to investigate a shooting involving a law enforcement officer in Clarksdale Tuesday afternoon.
The 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard was covered with yellow crime tape, city police and Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department vehicles as MBI officers combed through a black crossover that is believed to be the vehicle the person who was shot was riding in.
The person shot was not an officer.
“The shooting happened about 4:20 p.m. today (Tuesday)” said Coahoma County Sheriff Charles Jones, who was on the scene and spoke with the media about 7 p.m. “These things are very, very sensitive for both the victim and the person involved. This is not easy for them.”
Jones would not say what agency was involved in the shooting.
The shooting occurred at the corner of MLK and Bolivar Avenue just east of K’s Snack Shack.
Authorities did not say what sparked the shooting or the medical condition of the person shot.
Jones said he was letting MBI do their investigation and he would be able to give more details in the morning.
