Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.
Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
Officers with the Clarksdale Police Department were called to the scene around 7:20 p.m. and, once on the scene, discovered that Jenkins had been shot.
Earlier in the evening, Jenkins had attended the community forum on crime that was held at the Coahoma County Courthouse. The meeting had ended shortly before 7 p.m.
He was transported by personal vehicle to the Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, where he was stabilized before being flown to Memphis for further treatment. His condition was not known, police said Tuesday afternoon.
During the investigation, police detained three male subjects and were expected to file felony charges of aggravated assault and robbery against the trio later Tuesday. Police said several pounds of marijuana and four handguns were confiscated during the investigation.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was notified and agents are assisting the CPD in the investigation. Sandra Williams, chief of the CPD, said investigators are actively working the case.
