Clarksdale City Business Report

The Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioners addressed the following city business at their meeting Monday, June 22, at their meeting at 4 p.m. at the City Auditorium.

• On a motion by Ward 1 Commissioner Bo Plunk and second by Ward 2 Commissioner Ken Murphey the board approved minutes for the June 8, June 11 and June 18 meetings.

• On a motion by Murphey second by Ward 3 Commissioner Willie Turner the Board approved the closing of the 200 block of Issaquena for the Selma Mini-Series Event June 27 and the use of two port-a-johns at $100 each.

• On a motion by Murphey and a second by Turner the city approved the purchase of Ipads and phones for commissioners

• On a motion by Murphey and a second by Turner the city approved the application process being moved from City Clerk’s Office to WIN Job Center beginning July 1.

• On a motion by Plunk and second by Murphey the city approved paying students under the Youth Opportunity Grant program a total of $7,500 and Lillie Houston $2,250 for a two week period.

• On a motion by Murphey and second by Turner the city will allow Josephine Shorter to operate a day care at 603 Maple.

• On a motion by Turner and second by Commissioner Ed Seals will allow Bill Gresham an apartment and office at 149 Delta Avenue.

• On a motion by Seals  and by Plunk the city approved a request of the Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School to add additional buildings at 1012 W. Second.

• On a motion by Plunk and second by Murphey a public hearing will be held to rezone plats in River Club Subdivision back to A-1.

• On a motion by Seals and a second by Plunk the city approved and paid Miscellaneous Claims:

Millicent Dixon, $2,250.

Katie Taylor, $385.00.

High Performance Ryders, $805.00.

Neel and Schaffer, $19,948.50.

SouthGroup Clarksdale, $1,050.

Airport Board, $2,291.

Chamber of Commerce, $4,166.67.

Park Commission, $11,166.67.

Speech & Hearing, $1,333.33.

Housing Authority, $1,250.00.

SLA Jones Center, $1,250.00.

CARES, $4,166.67.

Board of Supervisors, $519.16.

Board of Supervisors, $677.33.

Board of Supervisors, $1,579.58.

• On a motion by Plunk and second by Murphey the city will advertise for bids for a new roof on the City Auditorium.

• On a motion by Turner and second by Seals the city approved budget changes to the PSN grant program (Rehab Public Offenders) - changing the Director’s salary from $6,000 to $12,000.

• On a motion by Seals and second by Plunk the city will enter a contract with Amanda Jones for the Director of the PSN grant program (Rehab public Offenders), effective June 1.

• On a motion by Turner and second by Seals the board entered executive session to discuss: disciplinary action to two officers in the Police Department; disciplinary action to an employee in the Police Department; disciplinary action to an employee in the Fire Department; acknowledge medical leave for five officers in the Police Department; acknowledge the medical leave for an employee in the Court Clerks Office

The next city board meeting will be at noon July 9.
