By SPECIAL TO THE PRESS REGISTER,

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is participating in the 2020 American Association of State Troopers Best Looking Cruiser Contest and is asking for public support by voting.

This year’s entry features an MHP Honor Guard Dodge Charger photographed in front of the Mississippi Fallen Officers Memorial Wall in honor of the men and woman who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our state. The public can go to AAST Facebook page to vote.

The winning entry will be featured on the cover of the AAST 2021 calendar with the top 12 finishers earning a spot on the calendar.

“We hope that everyone will support the MHP entry into the AAST Best Looking Cruiser Contest,” said Colonel Randy Ginn, Director of MHP. “This year’s photo not only reminds us of the commitment and service of the men and women of our department, but also pays tribute to the law enforcement officers of our state who have given their lives in service to a grateful state. I believe this photo represents our state very well.”

Voting ends Tuesday, July 21 at Noon Eastern Standard Time.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol specializes in the patrol of state and federal highways throughout the state of Mississippi, and was formed in 1938 to enforce traffic laws on state and federal highways. It falls under the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Sworn officers of the Highway Patrol are known as "State Troopers" and have the power to arrest for any crime committed in their presence statewide. Troopers make about $41,000 a year with Sergeants making about $50,000.

The Mission of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol (MHSP) is to be a service-oriented organization dedicated to providing for the safety of the public on Mississippi highways and to keep Mississippi citizens free from the fear of lawlessness. MHSP promotes the safe operation of motor vehicles on the state’s roads and highways by professionally and competently enforcing the rules of the road as set forth in Title 63 of the Mississippi Code of 1972.
