Colleagues, friends remember retired police captain Billy Joe Haley

Retired Capt. Billy Joe Haley, who served many years with the Clarksdale Police Department and Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, was remembered fondly by friends and colleagues following his death Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the age of 53.

The Coahoma County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution honoring Haley during Monday’s meeting.


Marie Jordan Pepper

Marie Jordan Pepper, 66, of Clarksdale, died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Martha Coker Green Houses in Yazoo City after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Marie was born Nov. 9, 1952, in Yazoo City to Charles A. Jordan Sr. and Mabel Norman Jordan.






Charter school to remain at St. Paul's United Methodist Church next year

Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School will remain at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on West Second Street for the 2019-20 academic year.

Executive director Amanda Johnson confirmed the school would stay in its current location during the February board meeting Thursday night.


CHS one month behind in taking over hospital lease; bills getting paid, things running as planned

While the delay is up to one month with Community Health Systems being the lone company on the lease to run Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, bills are still getting paid and the hospital is operating as planned.

Billy Joe Haley, 53, a retired captain with the Clarksdale Police Department and Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Methodist Central in Memphis, Tenn.

Billy Joe was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.


Noel Monaghan Russell

Noel Monaghan Russell, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in Stuart, Fla., from complications from a heart attack he suffered several days earlier.

Noel was born in Clarksdale on June 24, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs.  James A. Russell, Jr. and raised on his family’s farm near Jonestown.
