Clarksdale city officials got their first glimpse at the massive projects that lie ahead of them as they prepare to ask voters to approve a $17 million bond referendum this summer that they believe will help ease flooding.

The Corey L. Moore Sports and Recreation Complex in Clarksdale took another step towards becoming reality Thursday when the lead contractor on the project, CORE Construction, hosted a subcontractor fair.

The Clarksdale Police Department unveiled the city’s first substation on Monday and also hired a part-time investigator whose sole purpose will be dedicated to solving the city’s cold cases.

An electrical fire burned down a historical Jonestown home on three-and-a-half acres of land between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

There will be competition for the seat of tax assessor/collector in Coahoma County in the Tuesday, Aug. 6 primary election.

Etta Turner has been a fixture at the Clarksdale Municipal School District since 1998, but not in the traditional role as an educator.

Wendy Chamblee, 66, owner-operator of Southern Expressions Stain Glass and a Clarksdale resident, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Germantown (Tenn.) Methodist Hospital. 




Ben 'Son' Christian

Ben “Son” Christian, 73, of Lambert, died Sunday Dec. 23, 2018, at the Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. 

The funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Quitman County Middle School Gym in Marks. 

Delta Burial Funeral Home in Marks is in charge of handling the service.
