The City of Clarksdale typically purchases vehicles new but after years of wear and tear there comes a point where they are described at junk and it’s time to get them off city inventory rolls.
The city took bids two weeks ago for a variety of vehicles and equipment in an effort to get them off city property and make a little money.
More than a half-dozen bids were submitted to the city for seven vehicles and an industrial air compressor. These bids were compiled by the city clerk’s office and review by the city board attorney.
Commissioners voted on the bids Monday afternoon.
The city accepted bids from the following people for vehicles and equipment with the price paid listed:
- J J Merchant: 1992 Ford F150, $179; 2007 Ford Crown Victoria, $119; 2008 Chevrolet Impala, $1,529; 2008 Ford knuckleboom. $379; Leroi air compressor $279.
- Sam Robinson: 2007 Ford F150, $551.
- Kenneth Sims: 2000 Ford Crown Victoria, $485.
- James Tate: 2000 International, $2,388.
Those seeking to purchase vehicles were asked to submit a cash bond of 10-percent of their bid. The money earned was put into the city’s general fund.
In other business:
• The city approved a drive by birthday celebration for 2 p.m., Feb. 20 for Jennie Mae Hampton, 90, at 904 Grant Street.
• Paid the following Miscellaneous Claims: Cornerstone, $2,250; Mississippi Development Authority, $1,858.09; City of Clarksdale, $1,858.09; Salu & Salu $1,000; Chuck Espy, $627.33; State of Mississippi, $14,135.75
• Authorized reimbursement of the Incidental Expense Account in the amount of $1,878.65 for the month of January, 2021
• Authorized payment of January Accounts Payable invoices.
• Approved the 20th Order extending the emergency declaration for COVID
• Approved travel for the City Clerk to attend the annual City Clerk’s Conference in Gulfport, March 24-26 and authorized the Clerk to pay registration, hotel and meals.
• Approved a lien release of Lis Pendens for 128 Adams since property invoice has been paid in full and recorded at the Chancery Clerks Office
• Commissioner Ed Seals acknowledged the resignation of Demario Jonathan from the Park Commission Board and appointed Birley Cornelius Gipson, Jr. to the post.
• Commissioners accepted the resignation of Joseph Richardson from the Planning Commission.
• Commissioners approved a $250 winter clothing allowance for Asst. Chief Fernando Harris.
• The city approved Investigator Thomas to be sworn as a Deputy Municipal Court Clerk for affidavits.
• The city approved repairs to the door at Central Fire Station based on a quote of $8,082 from Overhead Door of Memphis.
• The city approved repair to the engine of a 2011 F550 Ford in the Public Works Department with Hallmark Ford in the amount of $13,470
• Commissioners approved authorization for the Mayor to sign a resolution stating the City’s intent to participate in MEMA/FEMA regional hazard mitigation plan and also approved plans to attend the planning meeting for the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
• The board voted to go into executive session for personnel matter and discussed the following matters:
- Fire Department - Salary Adjustments
- Fire Department - New Hire
- Police Department - Salary Adjustment
- Public Works Department - Offer Employment
• Approved minutes of the Jan. 25 and Feb. 4 meetings.
The board recess until its regular meeting at noon Feb. 18.
