The boil water notice for the Town of Jonestown has been lifted, but some residents were never told a boil ban was put in place.
Jessie Byrd, Compliance Officer with the Mississippi State Department of Health, said at 10:47 a.m. Thursday that Jonestown water was once again safe to drink.
Customers of Jonestown water system are asked to do the following:
Flush faucets for a total of ten minutes to introduce system water throughout house plumbing.
Flush all faucets a minimum of two minutes to ensure clearing of the line serving the faucet.
• Discard any drinks, ice, food, etc, made during the Boil-Water Alert.
• Rewash any food or drink contact items (knives, forks, plates, etc.) with "cleared" system water.
• Check water filters (in faucets, refrigerators and elsewhere) and replace if necessary.
• Run dishwasher through a cycle or two before washing dishes.
The Jonestown water system has 1,298 customers and has had problems maintaining the district and getting people to pay water bills for years.
