The first Bad Apple Blues Fest with a mixture of old and new blues music will be held October 2.
The festival will be held in the backyard of Bad Apple Blues Club on Issaquena Avenue from 1 to 8 p.m. October 2.
Sean “Bad” Apple, founder and organizer of the festival, will also be leading a blues guitar workshop from September 27 to October 1.
“The workshop attendees, it’s their chance to play at a Mississippi blues festival, so not only do they get to take the stage - the workshop attendees – but then I have legendary blues artists like Grammy nominated R.L. Boyce, I have Little Willie Farmer out of Duck Hill, Miss., I have 78-year-old Honeybee out of Indianola, a woman who plays guitar and sings sister of Paul ‘Wine’ Jones. I have Bill Abel. I have Lucious Spiller and myself, Sean ‘Bad’ Apple playing in it.”
Attendees of the workshop will be able to play a song or two during the festival and have their name on a t-shirt. Workshop participants will be coming from different parts of the United States.
It is $10 to attend the festival. Everyone who attends will receive a ticket and be able to reenter if they leave.
“I think in a time of the pandemic, a lot of festivals aren’t happening currently right now so it’s an all blues festival happening safely outside with social distancing,” Apple said.
Apple said the festival is an opportunity to have a good time, clean family fun and hear a mixture of blues music.
“It’s a combination of old style blues with some of the elderly performers and then some of the newer generation mixed, but it’s all blues,” Apple said. “It’s a blues festival.”
