CPU is doing a good job of providing power to the public and they have the reports to prove it.
The Clarksdale Public Utilities Board conducted its second meeting of the new year, receiving good compliance news, considering an important local sponsorship and ridding itself of unusable pieces of equipment.
Curtis Boschert, General Manager, Clarksdale Public Utilities, informed the board that all 2021 fourth-quarter NERC compliance reports have been successfully submitted. Boschert added that the Clarksdale Public Utilities were in full compliance with all applicable standards. The board acknowledged the report of full compliance.
The board reviewed and approved the designation of four items as surplus property that will be put up for auction. The items include a 1996 dump truck, in disrepair, that has already been replaced. A 2005 GMC 1500 LWB has substantial engine and brake issues and is not regularly in use. A 1996 Chevrolet S-10 is on the list because of longstanding brake issues with parts for which the CPU staff has been unable to reasonably find replacements. The final item is a 1994 CASE 590 Backhoe that has been unused for years and is too costly to repair.
The board also considered a request to purchase two Ford F-150 trucks. One will be used by the Water Wastewater Department and the other by the Electric Production Department. The combined cost of the two trucks is $58,510. The board approved both purchases. The vendor for both purchasers will be Landers, a contractor approved by the State of Mississippi.
The Juke Joint Festival, by and through the nonprofit Clarksdale Downtown Development Association, submitted a request for the board to become a sponsor of the festival. Scheduled for April 21-24, the Juke Joint Festival has become a signature event for Clarksdale and Coahoma County. The board has approved sponsorships in the past, and approved a sponsorship for the 2022 Juke Joint Festival in the amount of $3,500, the same amount as the previous year’s sponsorship.
The board then acknowledge the latest accountants’ compilation report for the North Delta Joint Municipal Water Management District, Inc.
Afterward, the board approved a status change for an employee who has successfully completed the probationary period. There being no further business, the board adjourned until its next regularly scheduled meeting in February.
