Rosa Fort High School won its third consecutive game and improved to 2-0 in district play with a 12-6 victory at Independence Friday.
Frednardo Stokes had a 6-yard touchdown run and Marcus Calhoun had a 10-yard touchdown run.
Ahmad Harris had three sacks and Ardavius Harris had an interception.
Danny Carter caused a fumble and Anthony Pope recovered the ball. Stokes had 15 tackles.
“It was a good defensive game for us,” said Lions coach Kwame Jackson.
The Lions host Holly Springs at 7 p.m. Thursday.
“We’re playing very well, especially with the late start that we got,” Jackson said. “We just have to be more disciplined. We had too many penalties on Friday, but overall, we’re playing with a lot of effort. We’re playing physical and we’re playing fast.”
Jackson did say his team has to cut down on its mistakes.
Delta beats Tunica
Delta Academy improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in district with a 32-14 win at Tunica Academy Thursday.
Delta Academy is at DeSoto School at 7 p.m. Friday.
Tunica Academy is at North Sunflower Academy Friday.
Palmer falls to Elzy
Madison Shannon Palmer lost 40-20 to Amanda Elzy High School Friday night.
The Dragons are 1-0 in district play, but are still yet to win a non-district game.
“We turned the ball over about six or seven times,” said Dragons coach Billy Fields.
Xavier Valentine scored on a quarterback sneak and threw a touchdown pass to Semaj Barber.
Antoine Henderson scored on a quarterback sweep for 30 yards.
Quintavieon Davis recovered a fumble.
“If we can limit the turnovers, we’ll be fine,” Fields said. “We’ve got injuries. Some of our key players went down.”
Davis is questionable with an ankle injury.
“This time of year, everyone has bumps and bruises,” Fields said.
Last week, Amanda Elzy ran a kickoff back 60 yards.
Fields said if the Dragons eliminate turnovers and play better on special teams, they can beat Coahoma County. The Dragons host the Red Panthers in a district game at 7 p.m. Friday.
“If we eliminate those turnovers, we’ll be alright,” Fields said.
“We definitely need to win this conference game to guarantee getting in the playoff, getting in the tournament at the end of the year.”
