The family of former Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett today announced that in lieu of a funeral, there would be a celebration of his life on Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m.at the Ground Zero Blues Club.
“Since Dad passed away Thursday, my family has been uplifted by the tremendous outpouring of support and remembrances we’ve received from people from Clarksdale and all over the world,” said Bill’s son Oliver Luckett.
“Dad dedicated his life to helping revitalize this city and create opportunities for the people here," said Luckett. "Dad loved Clarksdale, its music, and its people with all of his heart.
"In true Bill Luckett style," he added, "one of his final requests was to forgo a funeral and instead invite the community and anyone that wants to come to Clarksdale for some great music at Ground Zero Blues Club - on the house.”
Luckett was a co-owner of Ground Zero alongside his longtime friend and business partner, Morgan Freeman.
