Mark Johnson was terminated as Clarksdale Public Utilities’ general manager in September 2018, but nearly three years later, the unemployment he should receive is still in question.
As litigation is still ongoing, the matter was discussed once again in executive session during Tuesday’s CPU board meeting.
Johnson was the CPU general manager from June 2017 to September 2018. He was given unemployment, but CPU appealed.
“The initial cause came up then (after Johnson left CPU),” said CPU general manager Curtis Boschert, who succeeded Johnson. “It took a few months before it started, but we’re getting into the third year.”
Boschert feels there is enough evidence for a decision to be made.
“It’s with the judge,” Boschert said. “The judge has everything. We’re just waiting. We did everything. All of the record is there.
“I think at this point necessary papers, pleadings and filings have been made. We’re just waiting for the court to make the ruling.”
In other business, the board approved the 2020 Wastewater Protection Erosion Control project completion payment to Construction Specialists, LLC for $93,975.
“That’s where we did an erosion control project at the wastewater treatment plant,” Boschert said.
