This is the only warning you will get.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the Christmas Holiday Enforcement Period on Thursday, Dec. 23, and conclude Sunday, December 26, at midnight.
State Troopers will place emphasis on saturation patrols to combat speeding, promote seatbelt usage and prevent reckless driving. Drivers should avoid text messaging or any driver distraction that could endanger lives and have sober designated drivers in place when necessary.
“If plans include alcohol, please designate a sober driver before festivities start,” said Major John Poulos, of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. “No one should begin 2021 with being arrested, facing medical bills, legal fees, and perhaps losing their job.”
The holiday season is traditionally the most DUI intensive holiday as people enjoy the holiday and then get behind the wheel.
Any motorist who spots what they believe to be an impaired driver is asked to call 911 immediately and give their location, the direction of travel of the suspect vehicle and the color and type (car, truck, SUV) of the suspect vehicle. Dispatchers will ask your name but you don’t have to give it.
