There is a story on Page 2 of your Clarksdale Press Register about the Mississippi Presidential Primary set for Tuesday.
Primaries are a strange beast and Mississippi primaries are some of the strangest. I’ll not give a civics lesson today, but the next time your children or grandchildren question the need to take American Government ask them to explain a primary election to you.
Elections this past summer have made a big difference in Coahoma County.
Real Americans need to know how this thing works.

Coahoma County Election Commission Chairman Andrew Turner has predicted a low turnout Tuesday.
We both threw out numbers on Tuesday’s projected voter turnout.
We’ll be disappointed if it’s below 10-percent. We’ll be happy if it’s above 15-percent.

You have to declare a political party Tuesday. Are you a Republican or Democrat? Do you want to vote for someone or do you want to vote against someone.

Election workers got a hefty raise thanks to the state recently.
But those lawmakers in Jackson will make Coahoma County pay for the wage hike.
Tuesday’s election will cost taxpayers close to $20,000.
And we have the General Election set for November.

It looks like the Library roof has finally been fixed.
Your Clarksdale Press Register got on this story two years ago as prices spiraled out of control and there were political shenanigans going on.
I went to a Mississippi Press Association event where this newspaper won an award for reporting on that subject.
I had a newspaperman grin and say, “If you have this kind of problem with a library board what kind of problems do you have with city and county government?”

Police in Clarksdale have a tough job. If you see an officer in uniform, walk up to him, shake his hand and simply say “Thank you.”
Most cops I know are not the mushy type. That should be enough to make their day.

Things apparently were quiet around here this past weekend.
Police never sleep and bad guys don’t sleep well.
The word gets out quick with crooks realize “The Man” is on the prowl.

Your Clarksdale Press Register has a neat little feature on our website that lets you vote if you like speed bumps or not.
The vote was 60/40 Wednesday in favor of more speed bumps.
I don’t like speed bumps. They penalize people who drive the speed limit.
I know from personal experience a $200 traffic ticket does slow folks down!

Coahoma County lost a heartbreaker to Booneville in the State Basketball Championship Game last week.
It hurt.
But there is not a doubt in my mind Coach Derrick Moore and this young bunch will be back in Jackson next year.

The Juke Joint Festival is set for April 11, 12 and 13.
There will be 16 stages and 70 acts. You know the drill.
I urge Clarksdale locals to buy into this event. It’s an incredible PR event for this town at a time when we need it the most.

I don’t know if you realize Clarksdale has four new pastors at four of its major churches.
Easter is right around the corner and I urge the faithful and pagans to embrace this annual Clarksdale event, too.
Floyd Ingram is Editor of your Clarksdale Press Register. He tells you about the good and bad in our community. He urges you to do something about both.
