Christmas is coming to downtown Clarksdale the first week of December.
The annual downtown Christmas parade and fireworks show sponsored by the Clarksdale/Coahoma County Chamber of Commerce will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The fireworks show will be held over the Second Street bridge beginning at the end of the parade.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas at the Crossroads… where music and community come together.”
This year’s parade is expected to include floats, various vehicles and bands from the community in an event that celebrates this area’s vibrant culture, music history and creative community.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there were some 35 entries. Those wanting to participate should contact the chamber office by the end of this week.
Those taking part in the parade will start to line up at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the staging area along Riverside Drive. The parade will go down Riverside and then turn right and cross the First Street Bridge. It will then turn right onto Sunflower Avenue before turning left onto Second Street. The parade will then turn right at Leflore Street before taking another right down Third Street where it will to continue until its intersection with Sunflower Avenue, where it will proceed until heading back over the First Street bridge.
There will also be an increased police presence at this year’s parade, said organizers.
