Faith Based Spiritual House hopes to open this fall and bring a new direction to fighting addiction, gangs, depression and homelessness in Clarksdale.
“We want to be open in October with at least one house and hope it grows to more,” said Shirley Clay of FBSH. “We’ve done this in towns across the Southeast and this will be the first in Mississippi.”
The Clarksdale ministry will house, clothe and feed those recently released from prison, fighting addiction, gangs or homelessness.
Clay pointed out Clarksdale does not have a homeless shelter.
“We take those who may not have anyone or anywhere else to go and hold on to them,” she explained. “We are very up-front to them and tell them they can’t make it without Jesus.”
Clay said the home is staffed with a pastor and those trained to assist. She said residents typically stay six months to a year and they don’t turn anyone away. FBSH does not charge residents.
