At its July meeting, the Mississippi Community College Board accepted the resignation of Executive Director, Dr. Andrea Mayfield, effective immediately. Dr. Mayfield had served as Executive Director since December 1, 2015.
The Mississippi Community College Board of Trustees monitors the state's 15 community colleges including Coahoma Community College.
The board named Mr. Kell Smith as interim-Executive Director. Mr. Smith has been with the Mississippi Community College Board since 2008 and currently serves as the Director of Communications and Legislative Services.
“Since 1996, Dr. Andrea Mayfield has dedicated her professional career to community colleges,” said Mr. John Pigott, chair of the Mississippi Community College Board. “We appreciate her commitment to the system and wish her the best in the future.”
She previously served as President of Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and has more than 23 years of experience in the Mississippi community college system.
In the coming weeks, the Mississippi Community College Board will begin the search process for a new Executive Director.
The Board consist of ten members, none of which may be an elected official. The Governor appoints all ten members, two from each of Mississippi’s five Congressional districts as they existed before the 2000 federal census. Board terms are for six years.
