The Tunica Academy boys improved to 10-1 with a 59-51 victory against Bayou Academy Tuesday night.
“Boys played a solid game on both ends of the floor,” said coach Jeff Dalton. “We made Bayou work for everything they got offensively and our transition offense was really good tonight. Ball moved on offensive end and everyone got involved. Really like the way we are playing right now.”
Monterrius Woods led Tunica Academy with 13 points, Curt Berry and Braxton Acey had nine each, and Almonzo Payne and Omarion Griffin had eight each.
Tunica Academy also defeated Strayhorn High School 77-44 Friday.
“Starting group struggled (Friday) but second unit came in and turned the tide for us,” Dalton said. “Went on a crazy run in second period and to start the third leading to a 33-point third quarter. Really happy for that group and had some guys earn more playing time going forward. We still have a lot to figure out offensively but I like where we are near the halfway point.”
Acey had 14 points, Jayshun Miles and Paul Pierce Jr. each had 13.
Tunica Academy girls
The Tunica Academy girls dropped to 6-6 with a 50-37 loss against Kirk Academy Tuesday.
Sophie Dalton had 12 points, Taylor Sexton had nine and Addison McIver had sevem.
“Girls played hard and played well just couldn't get shots to fall tonight,” Coach Dalton said. “Really proud of the effort and looking forward to second half of the season.”
Tunica Academy defeated Strayhorn 54-15 Friday.
Sexton had 18 points, Sophie Dalton had 16 and Sarah Goff added eight.
“Struggled to score in first period but found a rhythm in second,” Coach Dalton said. “Sarah Goff continues to come up big on the defensive end which gets us going offensively. Taylor and Sophie continued to play well offensively.”
