On Saturday, July 7, over 50 years of service was celebrated with the naming of the Sam Wiggins Memorial Fellowship Hall.
In a dedication program honoring Brother Sam Wiggins, his labor with the McKinley Street Church of Christ was acknowledged by friends, family, church members and the community.
Wiggins, who was minister at McKinley Street Church of Christ, died in January 2017 at the age of 82.
A memorial plaque engraved with the newly named fellowship hall was also unveiled. The unveiling ceremony was facilitated by the new minister for the McKinley Street Church of Christ, Brother Oscar Dorsey.
The unveiling of the memorial plaque was done by brothers who served with Wiggins during his time of service to the congregation.
A catered reception on the grounds of the fellowship building followed the ceremony.
The Wiggins family said, “We were deeply moved by the outpouring of love and appreciation shown for Brother Wiggins’ work with the church and the community. We would like to thank all of those who faithfully served with him during his ministry and supported the efforts of honoring him for his work in the Lord.”
During the dedication program, the Wiggins family also presented a check to board member, Brother Billy Moore, as a donation to the scholarship fund of the School of Religious Studies for which Wiggins also served as a member of the board.
