This year, Clarksdale continued a tradition and served as a host city and collection point for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
The ministry is part of the Samaritan’s Purse organization, who organizes and generously helps fund the donation of millions and millions of boxes every year that are shared with children around the world and serves as a gospel opportunity to communities in need.
This year, Riverside Baptist Church welcomed the ministry into their care after Oakhurst Baptist Church served faithfully for several years as a drop-off location.
The effort is a community collaboration and involves as many people and groups as are willing to participate, said a press release from Riverside Baptist Church. This year, approximately three schools, seven churches and multiple individuals participated in donating shoeboxes.
The Clarksdale community nearly doubled its total boxes collected from last year, gathering 1,082 in 2018.
“That is a great accomplishment and it was an amazing thing to see our community work diligently at together,” Emily Sandusky said in the press release.
