The final issue of The Delta Advantage, a primary market shopper published by The Clarksdale Press Register, will be on Wednesday, May 9.
The cost of printing and mailing out the free weekly product to Clarksdale and Coahoma County residents outnumbered the required number of weekly insert customers’ participation necessary to profitably distribute the shopper, said Michael Banks, publisher of the Press Register.
“Client circular volume and usage is cyclical, and currently inserts are not as prevalent with national chains. That’s why we are deciding to cease publication of the Advantage,” Banks said. “Makes zero sense to continue with the advertising vehicle without a minimal number of weekly inserts.”
He encouraged those who are not subscribing to The Press Register to take advantage of a current promotion offering a year’s subscription for $30. The cost is 42 percent off of the $1 per issue newsstand price.
This way, they’ll continue to receive each Thursday morning the advertising and coupon inserts that were provided in the Delta Advantage, but also stay up to date on the news and happenings of their neighbors and friends.
“I think the readers are enjoying the increased focus we’ve put on covering local people, events and news. We’re showcasing more photographs and stories about the people of Coahoma County, as well as providing a way for businesses to advertise their services and wares to the local marketplace,” Banks said.
By eliminating the Delta Advantage, Banks said it will allow the staff to dedicate more time and resources to the Press Register and also expand upon its multimedia offerings.
“I’ve heard nothing but positive comments about the Press Register during this past month and it’s our goal to continue to produce a paper that is valued by its readers and our business partners,” Banks said. “We believe this move will only improve the Press Register.”
