Students from West Bolivar High School watch as SafTCart employee George Malone, second from left, puts together a manifold during the students’ visit to the Clarksdale plant on Feb. 26.
Malone has been an employee at SafTCart for close to 19 years. At left is Andy Ellis, the IT director for SafTCart who was giving the tour.
Instructor Gary Cleveland brought his welding students to Clarksdale to expose them to the available opportunities.
The significance of exposing students to a manufacturing plant where welding happens is to show the students how valuable the skillset is, said Jim Herring with SafTCart. He said, ‘In 10 years, we will lose 40 percent of all skilled laborers in the U.S., especially welders, with no one to take their place.’
