Joe Gibbs and Cindy Mitchell, of Clarksdale, were facilitators in The Mississippi Bar’s 20th annual James O. Dukes Professionalism Program, which took place at a new student orientation session at the University of Mississippi Law School on Aug. 16.
Mississippi Bar President Pat Bennett and Supreme Court Justice Robert Chamberlin gave keynote addresses followed by group breakout sessions led by the attorney facilitators. Students examined hypothetical legal situations designed to provoke thoughtful discussion of professionalism and ethical issues that might arise in their future practice of the law.
The James O. Dukes Professionalism Program was named for former Bar President James O. Dukes, who founded the program. Each year, lawyers and judges statewide are selected to serve as facilitators for this program. Facilitators are considered respected individuals who consistently uphold the legal and ethical obligations required by a legal career.
