Spring Initiative will be applying for a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the Mississippi Department of Education. The grant would be in the amount of $208,000.
The Spring Initiative 21st Century Community Learning Center will meet the urgent need for additional academic, social-emotional, physical/mental health support and intervention for 80 students in Coahoma County who were selected for struggling academically, exhibiting difficult behaviors, facing emotional challenges, and/or lacking a stable support system.
The proposed funding would enable the establishment of a full cohort of 16 new first- and second-grade students, as well as strengthened services and programming for Spring’s existing 64 students (third-12th grade, college freshmen and sophomores). All 80 students will benefit through the implementation of evidence-based financial literacy and physical/nutritional health curricula and access to a full-time Spring Initiative therapist.
