A Clarksdale student was able to take part in a unique academic and career-oriented development experience this summer.
Taylor C. Matthews joined outstanding high school students from across the nation at the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine, at Emory University in Atlanta.
She is the daughter of Toya Harrell-Matthews and David Matthews. Her grandparents are Donell Harrell and the late Vera C. Harrell and L.C. and Marie Matthews.
The leadership forum is one of the Envision family of programs that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom, said a press release from the program.
Matthews was nominated by the College Board. She is a rising 11th-grade honor student at Clarksdale High School and is passionate about medicine and helping others. Her career aspiration is to become a pediatrician. She enjoyed gaining hands-on medical experience that the forum provided.
“National Youth Leadership Forum at Emory University is a great opportunity for high-achieving scholars to get outside the classroom and see, through hands-on interactive learning, how to innovate and think creatively,” said Andrew Potter, the chief academic officer for Envision. “These students, who have already proven themselves academically, will be challenged to work on real-world, student-created projects to bring their studies and career interests to life.”
Since 1985, Envision programs have served more than 800,000 students in more than 145 countries, with programs designed to help students develop the leadership, scholarship and career skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive college and career landscape, said the press release.
