The Coahoma Early College High School boys basketball team has opened the 2018-19 season with a 4-0 start.
The Tigers defeated Clarksdale High School 86-71, won at Leflore County 79-41, at Simmons 57-43 and at home against West Tallahatchie 84-61.
Tre Payno had 28 points, five assists and four steals, while Rashard McCray had 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and seven steals.
Payno had 18 points against Simmons, Hertavious Williams had 11 and Thomas Williams Jr. had 10.
Payno had 18 points against Leflore County, Nicarioys Johnson had 14, Hertavious Williams had 13, and McCray had 10.
Thomas Williams Jr. had 20 points against Clarksdale, Trevion Jackson had 17, Payno had 16, and Adrian Flowers had 12.
Williams Jr., who had 460 rebounds coming into the season and surpassed the 500 mark last weekend, had a double-double with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers ooened the season with a 3-1 start.
CECHS opened the season with a 61-49 loss at Clarksdale.
Zykha Blanch led the Lady Tigers with 15 points followed by Za'Rihha Green with 14.
Aaliyah Davis scored 14 points in a 47-18 win at Leflore County.
The Lady Tigers came back with a 51-47 win at Simmons and a 62-22 home win against West Tallahatchie.
Davis had 22 points, two assists and two steals against West Tallahatchie; Green had 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals; and Zykea Pittman had four points and 10 rebounds.
Coahoma County
The Coahoma County boys opened the season 1-1 with a 63-40 win against North Side in the Clarksdale tournament and a 67-65 overtime loss at Horn Lake.
Jai'sheldon Yates led the way with 12 points in the win followed by Markevious Holmes with 11.
Bentavious Galmore had 24 against Horn Lake, Markevius Phillips had 14 and Tarkeviuous Logan had 10.
The Lady Red Panthers also opened 1-1 with a 38-9 win against North Side and a 51-45 loss to Horn Lake.
Nakia Cheatham led the Lady Red Panthers with nine points against North Side.
Calysia Phillips had 17 points against Horn Lake followed by Cheatham with 10.
Lee Academy
The Lee Academty boys opened the season with a 53-40 victory at Lee, Ark.
Phillip Brownlee led the Colts with 13 points and Seth Campbell finished with 11.
The Fillies opened the season with a 51-46 victory at Lee, Ark.
Anna Byrd had 27 points followed by Ashlynn Smith with 10.
The Colts junior varsity lost 50-42 in overtime.
D.J. Vassel had 15 points followed by Watkins Fyfe with 12.
The Fillies junior varsity won 33-31 with Maggie Etheridge’s 20 points leading the way.
