Clarksdale High School trailed 45-0 at halftime at Louisville in the second round of the playoffs Friday night en route to a 59-0 loss.
That did not stop senior captain Kevin Smith, an outside linebacker and wide receiver, from playing until the final buzzer.
Smith recovered a fumble on Louisville’s opening drive of the second half and earned the Press Register player of the week.
Smith filled in at many spots for the Wildcats during the season. He returned kicks on special teams and was a long snapper. He also saw some action at strong safety on defense.
The Wildcats finished the season 7-5 with a 3-1 record in Region 3-4A.
