Coahoma Community College raised $8,175 at its annual Spring Soiree at the Cutrer Mansion in Clarksdale earlier in the month.
It was CCC’s 10th spring soiree and Mr. Sipp’s band played for everyone. The evening party was virtual in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic with Mr. Sipp playing.
“We actually did it virtually and we had the same artist Mr. Sipp, so we wanted to make sure that he came to the Mississippi Delta and actually gave us a great live show,” said Karen Done, CCC director of student engagement.
The $8,175 was raised through donors and paying $25 per ticket to get into the soiree.
“It is one of our biggest fundraisers for the college sponsored by the CCC foundation,” Done said. “The purpose of the foundation is just to support students. We help students meet any needs that are beyond what financial aid will meet. It’s a way that we help students.”
The CCC class of 1971 also made significant contributions.
“Usually, we celebrate the golden class at graduation and that’s one of our biggest donors on the night of the soiree,” Done said.
The money raised has helped CCC students in a variety of ways the past 10 years.
“Usually, the funds from this event help students with Internet access,” Done said. “They help with technology needs. They help with any unmet needs that financial aid doesn’t help with. It could be housing. It could travel. Any unmet needs, it’s just a way to help our students.”
Although $8,175 surpassed the goal of raising $5,000, more money has been raised at past suaires.
Done did feel the event was successful.
“We were really blessed,” Done said. “It was a beautiful evening, a wonderful night for us to celebrate CCC students.”
Done said donations are still welcome to help with student needs.
“We would welcome the opportunity for anyone to continue to give,” Done said. “I want to encourage anyone that wants to give to Coahoma students to continue to contact us so that you can donate to students and support their success.”
