Robert Cord Foster, 55, of Sardis passed away July 25, 2021 in Bolivar County. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Funeral services are at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.
Cord had a long aviation career beginning with training as an Inspection Authorized Mechanic, followed by 30+ years as an Ag Pilot. He received his flight training at Ag Flight in Bainbridge, Georgia. He worked for the State Department in Central America, as well as in several states including Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Minnesota during his career. He most recently worked for Old River Flying Service in Elaine, Ark., where he enjoyed working side-by-side with two long-time friends. Cord also completed his college education at Texas A & M.
He enjoyed attending the Lyon Methodist Church, and his long-time affiliation with MAAA (Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association). Cord loved flying, hunting, "adventures", and his dog Sam. Cord never met a stranger, loved to visit, and had many friends. He was also a beloved member of the Dysfunctional Family Social Club.
Survivors include his wife Roxane Stiles Foster of Sardis; father Floyd Wesley Foster of Clarksdale, and sister Elizabeth Foster of Lyon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane Harris Foster.
Cord did not have children of his own, but gained a daughter and son-in-law (Ross and Shonna Dickard) when he and Roxane married. He also gained three grandchildren (Palmer, Mac, and Kitty Dickard) to whom he was affectionately known as "Grumps".
