Keith Johnson has been a regular at the Juke Joint Festival for several years.

Johnson, a Glen Allan native, comes from a long line of musicians and his great uncle Muddy Waters came from the Stovall plantation in Coahoma County. His love for music developed at a young age and he eventually started coming to Clarksdale regularly.

POLICE REPORT: Shooting sends man to hospital, auto burglary reported, shots fired

The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday evening and sent a man to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

As required by law, Clarksdale Police were called to the emergency room after a man was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand at 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

Shots fired into car and Washington Street apartment

The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating shots fired into a car on Washington Street and is urging the community to help them find the culprit.

Police were called to the 400 block of Washington at 2 a.m. Friday after the occupant of a nearby home called police with a report of shots fired.

The Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted Monday to set hearings on the city’s plans to either make 18 property owners clean up their property or see the city demolish the homes and send the property owner a bill for the work.

Liz Basha scored the Fillies’ one goal late in the second half.

City, County ask for shutdown

Mayor Chuck Espy and Board of Supervisors President Johnny Newson have ordered a city-wide shutdown in the wake of the coronavirus being reported in Coahoma County.

In a sweeping move, Espy said there will be no gatherings of more than 10 people in the city, his statement was echoed by Newson for the county.
