The Clarksdale Police Department responded to three shootings in a four-day span last week, including two linked to the community’s famed Crossroads.
Police have made an arrest in one of the shootings and have warrants for the arrest of two suspects believed linked to the two other shootings.
Clarksdale Police Chief Sandra Williams, said the first shooting began as an altercation at Tiger Mart at the Crossroads of Highways 61 and 49, Thursday, Dec. 10, but the victim left, went to Gregory Cove and was allegedly followed by the suspect, Altrez Logan, 20.
Police were called to the 1800 block of Gregory Cove at 12:06 p.m. Thursday after a report of shots fired in that area. The person Logan was allegedly aiming at was not struck by gunfire.
Chief Williams said Logan was arrested the day of the shooting, transported to the Coahoma County Jail and appeared before Judge Derek Hopson Saturday, Dec. 12. Hopson gave Logan a $75,000 bond.
“Individuals got into a verbal altercation (at Tiger Mart),” Williams said. “A weapon was displayed by one of the parties.”
The CPD responded to a second call in reference to shots at Tiger Mart at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
“We arrived on the scene and discovered a shooting had occurred,” Williams said. “We had one victim who was shot. The suspect had fled the scene.”
Williams said their investigation led to a warrant being issued for Timothy Terrell Edmond Jr., a 28-year-old back male at 5 feet, 10 inches, 140 pounds.
Williams said the victim, who was a customer of the store, was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.
A number of people at Crossroads’ restaurants for lunch phoned in the shooting and have given details of the event to police.
The CPD also responded to shootings at the Sunflower Lane Apartments at 2106 Center St. at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.
Two victims were found and there is a warrant for the arrest of suspect Damaricus Washington, 35, a six-foot black male.
One victim was airlifted to The Med in Memphis, while the other victim was treated locally and released.
“The victim said who shot him,” Williams said.
“We do not find a connection between the three,” said Chief Williams about the weekend shooting. “They are all separate shootings. We did not find a link.”
But Williams did say all three are ongoing investigation and police continue to search for details and two suspects.
