Dominic Tavoleti, 85, of Clarksdale, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Coahoma County to Mary Tarzi Tavoleti and Fred Tavoleti on Jan. 8, 1934.
He went to Clarksdale High School and graduated in 1952. After graduation, he served in the United States Army in Germany from March 1956 to March 1958. He returned home, where he spent his career farming in the family business, Tavoleti Planting Company.
During his business years, he served as a director of First National Bank. He also served on the advisory committee at Staplcotn and on the commission of Black Lake Drainage.
He was very active in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council and as an usher. He established a Christmas Basket program for the local needy. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dominic is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Tuminello Tavoleti of Clarksdale; four daughters, Mary Helen Hepner (David) of Memphis, Tenn., Kathryn T. Grissom (Bruce) of Germantown, Tenn., Julie T. Agostinelli (Robert) of Clarksdale, and Patricia T. Marinelli (Steve) of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; a sister, Sina Tavoleti of Clarksdale; 11 grandchildren, William Hepner and Mary Caroline Hepner of Houston, Andrew Grissom, Robert Grissom and Ann Ragan Grissom of Germantown, Matthew Agostinelli of Dothan, Ala., Grace Ann Mayne (Casey) of Vicksburg, Michael Agostinelli and Lauren Agostinelli of Clarksdale, and Patrick Marinelli and Thomas Marinelli of Muscle Shoals.
He loved his family dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Fred Tavoleti; his brothers, Philip Tavoleti, Johnny Tavoleti and Anthony Tavoleti; and his sisters, Lena Hough and Eldina Clegg.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 130 Florence Ave., Clarksdale, MS 38614; St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School; and St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Funeral services were held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, with Father Scott Thomas of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial was at Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation was held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Sunday, January 20, 2019.
Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale handled the arrangements.
