Shirley Tollison Stanley

Shirley Tollison Stanley, 79, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. Stanley was born in Pell City, Ala. She spent most of her life in Clarksdale, until moving to Nesbit to live with her daughter.

Most of her life was spent helping others, especially children. She was a mother to all children she knew. She raised her three brothers, her own two children and mothered the children of the Coahoma Opportunities Head Start program for 42 years.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all of her being. 

She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School class. She served many years as a board member of the Sunflower School Consolidated Preservation Board.

Mrs. Stanley was married to her husband, Dan Stanley, for 62 years until his death in 2017.  

She is survived by her two children, Danny Stanley (Mistie) of Marks and Debbie Stanley Windsor (Jim) of Nesbit; three grandchildren, Jessica Stanley Roberts (Chad) of Cleveland, Christen Stanley Pinner (TJ) of Coldwater, and Kendall Windsor Trim (Josh) of Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Gregory Roberts, Lane Pinner, Whitten Trim and Olivia Trim; and three brothers, Jerry Tollison (Paulette) of Memphis, Milton Harper (Sandi) of Olive Branch, and Johnny Harper (Deborah) of Florence, Ala. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis to carry on Mrs. Stanley’s dedication to the lives of children.
