Coahoma Sheriff's Department involved in shooting

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in east Clarksdale.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Department said authorities were executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.

Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.

Max Leon Furrey, Jr., 65, a retired electrical technical maintenance worker from Lyon, died Nov. 1, 2019 at his home. Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Meredith-Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale with burial in the Memorial Gardens.
