William Slaughter, 73, of Tutwiler died Monday, July 20, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at Delta Burial Funeral Home in Clarksdale.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Frison Chapel Church Cemetery in Brazil, Miss.


Waller won’t ‘go’ to DNC in August

Jen Waller was all set to go represent Coahoma County and the Mississippi Delta as a delegate at the 2020 Democratic National Convention, and while she will still represent us, she won’t go.

The convention is Aug. 17 to 20 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisc., but it will be meeting virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is unlikely Waller, a Clarksdale native and currently the director of the Coahoma County Higher Education Center, will be able to attend the convention, but she will be able to cast her votes as a delegate and hopes to use her experience to make a difference.


Linda Brooks Whitehead

Linda Brooks Whitehead, 79, a retired teacher from Clarksdale,, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center. Graveside service is 9 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.


Albert AC Sims

Albert AC Sims, 74, born November 12, died in Clarksdale.

Funeral services are noon Thursday, July 23, 2020 with the Rev. Gooden officiating. Graveside is at McLaurin Memorial Garden. Visitation is noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Century Funeral Home.

Century Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Samuel Johnson, 68, of Jackson, Tenn., died May 21, 2019 of natural causes.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale. The Rev. Luster C. Tyler II will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Eagle Church Cemetery in Dublin.


Charles Lee Hannah

Charles went to be with his Lord Sept. 2, 2019. He was born March 2, 1933 to Willie Philpot Hannah and James Ervin Hannah in Mattson, he served in the Airforce and was stationed in El Paso, Texas, when he married his childhood sweetheart, Flossie Youngblood. It would have been their 66th wedding anniversary Sept. 4.
