Coahoma Sheriff's Department involved in shooting

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in east Clarksdale.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Department said authorities were executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.

Funeral services for Ericka Wilson, of Memphis and formerly of Clarksdale, will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 25,2020 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2020.

Nellie Ann Ellington, 65, a School Teacher, died Jan. 13, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland. Funeral mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland with burial in the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby.



Betty Jean Dotson

Betty Jean Dotson, 66, of Clarksdale died at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis Jan. 1, 2020.

Funeral service is at noon Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Lacy Harrell will officiate. Burial is at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Lyon. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2020.

Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.

No city, county funds will be used on airport board's private plane, says chairman

To avoid any misunderstanding, Clarksdale-Coahoma Airport Board chairman David Huggins explained to the members of the board that the anti-collision system for its private plane will be paid through the private plane account and will not involve any government (city or county) funds.
