Geoff Abraham

Geoff Abraham, 71, formerly of Clarksdale, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Cumming, Ga., where he had been a patient since Dec. 26, 2019.  Funeral services will be held in Atlanta, Ga. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020.


Lillian Odie Humphries

Ms. Lillian Odie Humphries, 101, a Friars Point native, spent her adult life as an elementary school teacher and reading teacher. She was born Dec. 23, 1918 and died Dec. 30, 2019. Her dedication to the craft was shown in how much she cared for her students, how she inspired them to dream, and lives were changed as a result.


Bro. Ray Simpson

Bro. Ray Simpson, 87, a music minister at Riverside Baptist Church, died Jan. 4, 2020 at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020 at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Baptist Church with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery.


Jewel Moore Williams

Jewel Moore Williams, 91, a homemaker, passed away Dec. 27, 2019 at her home. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Visitation will also be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Meredith-Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale with burial in the Memorial Gardens.


Tyronnica Hawkins

 

Tyronnica Hawkins, 38 died Dec. 22, 2019 on the Coahoma County Highway.

She was born Aug. 17, 1981.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Jan. 4, 2020 at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Luster Tyler officiating. Burial is at McLaurin Memorial Garden.

Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.

GERMANTOWN, TENN.—Ann Tomlinson Barnett, 93, of Germantown, Tenn., passed away Oct. 29, 2019 at Regional One Health Medical Center. Born in Helena, Ark. on Jan. 22, 1926 to Mr. & Mrs. E.P. Tomlinson, she grew up in Clarksdale.
