City of Clarksdale recognizes employee, yards of the month

The city of Clarksdale recently recognized its Employee of the Month and also named its Yards of the Month.

Lynn Logan, an employee in the city court clerk’s office, was named as the March Employee of the Month. The award was announced the Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioners meeting held Monday, March 11.


CCC softball looking toward conference play

Coahoma Community College softball is making strides toward becoming a winning program in the MACJC Conference. Head Coach Erin Smith knows how tough the conference is but believes that Coahoma has the skills to outplay any team. The Lady Tigers are looking to improve in 2019 with a great deal of experience and promising future talent.

Timothy Burrel

Timothy Burrel -- a soldier, leader, educator, entrepreneur and, most of all, a loving devoted husband and father – died Friday, March 8, 2019, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was 76 years old.

Timothy was born on Feb. 18, 1943, in Lyon to the Rev. George and Rosie Burrel, who preceded him in death.


Community, churches come together for Clarksdale cleanup

Various members of the Clarksdale community came together Saturday morning as part of the first Community Cleanup Day.

There were more than 40 individuals who showed up to help clean up a portion of Clarksdale, said Todd Bailey, the youth minister at Clarksdale Baptist Church and one of the organizers of the event.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
