Eligio Aguilar, 81, a farmer from Clarksdale, died Jan. 12, 2020 at Northwest Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale. Funeral mass is 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale with burial in the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby.


Gary A. Boykin Jr.

Gary A. Boykin Jr., 52, of Hernando, with Mayer Marketing and formerly with the Clarksdale Press Register, died Jan. 3, 2020 at Baptist Desoto in Southaven. Visitation was 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Funeral services were 2 p.m.

Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.
