This week I counted up the number of inches of news stories and number of inches in advertising we have run in your Clarksdale Press Register since I got here in May.

It totaled more than 1,400 inches of detailed information in news and advertising about the men and women who will soon become the leaders of Coahoma County.


Frenchie Esau Genola Feather

Frenchie Esau Genola Feather, 95, of Saltillo, and formerly of Clarksdale, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Aug.13, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.Mrs. Feather was born on July 14, 1924, in Linn,  the youngest child of the late Simon Esau Genola and Olive Beevers Genola.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.


Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.
