Virginia Lane Hite, 85, a retired nurse with The Women’s Clinic and of Tuscumbia, Ala., and formally of Clarksdale, passed away Friday, July 3, 2020 at home.

Arthur Lestrick, 40, was confirmed missing early Sunday morning from Unit 28, a work camp. He is believed to have left on foot.

An accident occurred in downtown Clarksdale on the corner of East Second Street and Delta Avenue at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Members of the Clarksdale Police Department and Pafford Emergency Medical Services were at the scene.
It was a busy weekend for the Clarksdale Police Department with a man shot in the chest another hit in the leg, a car stolen and five reports of shots fired.
All are currently under investigation and the community is being asked to help solve these crimes, help police make an arrest and stop the violence.

Mayor Chuck Espy and Board of Supervisors President Johnny Newson have ordered a city-wide shutdown in the wake of the coronavirus being reported in Coahoma County.
In a sweeping move, Espy said there will be no gatherings of more than 10 people in the city, his statement was echoed by Newson for the county.

It’s summer in Mississippi. Sunshine is plentiful. But when you take a closer look at Clarksdale, there are many dark corners in need of sunlight.
Charles went to be with his Lord Sept. 2, 2019. He was born March 2, 1933 to Willie Philpot Hannah and James Ervin Hannah in Mattson, he served in the Airforce and was stationed in El Paso, Texas, when he married his childhood sweetheart, Flossie Youngblood. It would have been their 66th wedding anniversary Sept. 4.
A day after hearing from both sides in an investigation of three of the top employees at Clarksdale Public Utilities, and less than 24 hours after being served notice of a federal lawsuit against the city, the Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted Tuesday to a settlement, allowing the inquiry to continue.
