PANNY MAYFIELD: Stay home, read a book, watch the news, stay safe

CLARKSDALE, Miss. –  On the sixth day of a 15-day plan to slow Corona Virus spreading, Americans were urged “to stay at home and save lives” by the White House task force during its press conference at noon Saturday.

States under official lockdown orders include New York, California, Washington.

Glenda Thomas-Hilson, 46 of Clarksdale passed away on March 6, 2020 at her residence. Public viewing is 2 to 5 p.m. March 13, 2020 at Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home. Funeral service is 11 a.m. March 14, 2020 at City Of Truth church with Pastor Zedric Clayton presiding.

Jim Pugh, 52, Owner/Operator of Southern Collision, passed away March 17, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale with burial in the Memorial Gardens.


ESPNTom All-State Basketball honorees announced

Coahoma Early College High School assistant basketball coach Thomas Williams Sr., whose nickname is “ESPNTom,” is recognizing achievements of players in Coahoma County with his first ESPNTom All-State Basketball Team for the 2019-20 season.

Williams Sr. named one team for the boys and another for the girls with 10 athletes each.

Heaven received another angel on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Mrs. Doris Evelyn Roark Furniss left her earthly home to join her Savior. 

She was a devoted Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before she retired, she held many positions with JCPenney, including sales associate, department supervisor and office manager.
