PANNY MAYFIELD: Stay home, read a book, watch the news, stay safe

CLARKSDALE, Miss. –  On the sixth day of a 15-day plan to slow Corona Virus spreading, Americans were urged “to stay at home and save lives” by the White House task force during its press conference at noon Saturday.

States under official lockdown orders include New York, California, Washington.

Visitation is was 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10,  2020 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.

Noel Monaghan Russell

Noel Monaghan Russell, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in Stuart, Fla., from complications from a heart attack he suffered several days earlier.

Noel was born in Clarksdale on June 24, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs.  James A. Russell, Jr. and raised on his family’s farm near Jonestown. 


Coahoma Early College High football ends season with 47-12 loss at Independence

Coahoma Early College High School was plagued with injuries throughout division play and was winless in Region 2-3A action going into the final regular-season game at Independence Thursday night, but still had an opportunity to make the playoffs with a 7-point win and some help.
