Freddie Lee Furdge, 79, born May 11, 1940, died in Dundee Dec. 17, 2019.

Funeral services were noon Saturday, Dec. 21 at Thompson Chapel. Burial was at Thompson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2019.

Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.

Trio to appear in court on weapons charges after New Year's Eve event

Three men will appear in Municipal Court on Thursday on charges they were carrying a concealed weapon.

The arrests came after members of the Clarksdale Police Department were called out at 11:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve night, Monday, Dec. 31, to the area around Lincoln and Sixth streets in reference to a report of shots fired.


Curtis Lee Phillips

Curtis Lee Phillips, 61, of Clarksdale died Saturday, June 22, 2019. He was born March 4, 1958 in Drew.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Century Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Micheal Matthews will officiate. Burial is at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Clarksdale.
