Local police officers, firefighters, city officials compete in Fireman's Challenge

Members of the police and fire departments from the city of Clarksdale and Coahoma County got together Friday for the first-ever Fireman’s Challenge.

The event, held at the Clarksdale Fire Department on Desoto Avenue, was similar to the grueling, physical test that candidates must pass in order to become a firefighter.




Juke Joint Festival attendees travel to North Delta Museum

FRIARS POINT — History in Clarksdale and Coahoma County extends well beyond the blues.

Residents of Friars Point attempted to show some of that history during the Juke Joint Festival on Friday when two shuttle bus tours went from the tourism office in Clarksdale all the way to the North Delta Museum in Friars Point.

Jonestown seeks to name streets after two longtime residents

JONESTOWN — The Jonestown City Council voted to approve changing two street names after two longtime residents during its monthly meeting in April, but some steps must be taken before everything is finalized.

Madison Street would be named after Betty Baugh, while Harrison Avenue would be named after Celia Gooden.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
