Robert Blake Ashmore was convicted this morning of first-degree murder of Mason Howard, 19, with a 12-gauge shotgun on April 9, 2016 and sentenced to life in prison under the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The verdict came in a jury trial in second circuit judge Al Smith’s courtroom.

Rubye Brown Cosby, 88, of Jonestown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Northwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale.
Rufus Thompson, 56, died June 15, 2019 at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. He was born Sept. 11, 1962 in Marks.
Funeral services were noon Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Valley Queen M.B. Church in Marks. Burial was at Booker Cemetery in Marks.
Century Funeral Home directed funeral services.
It has been two years since the passing of former Clarksdale High School assistant football coach and head track coach Melvin Sinquefield but his memory still lingers in those of us who knew and loved the man.
