Hawkins seeks local help for summer school

DJ Hawkins has come a long way and he’s asking his hometown to help him go a little farther.

Millsaps College senior DJ Hawkins has been awarded a Fulbright grant to teach and study in Russia as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA). A bio-chemistry major from Clarksdale, Hawkins plans to pursue a career as a gastroenterologist.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
